The Ottawa Redblacks are nearing a record on the wrong side of history, and have two games remaining to win their first game.
The Ottawa Redblacks are 0–16 to start the 2026 season and could become the only team in CFL history to finish a season without a win.
Ottawa has scored just 375 points this season, the fewest in the CFL. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have scored the second-fewest points in the league, making them the Redblacks’ best opportunity to earn their first win in the final game of the season.
Ottawa’s biggest weakness has been its running game. The Redblacks are the only team in the league yet to rush for more than 1,000 yards, having recorded just 862 yards through their first 16 games—an average of 53.9 rushing yards per game.
On the other side of the ball, the Redblacks have also allowed the most points in the CFL this season, conceding 599 in total—an average of 37.4 points per game. Much like their rushing attack, Ottawa’s run defense has also been the worst in the league. The Redblacks have allowed 2,145 rushing yards so far this season and are the only team to have conceded more than 2,000 yards on the ground.
The Redblacks face the Toronto Argonauts on October 16th, 2026 and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on October 24th, 2026 in their final two games of the season. They will be desperate to secure their first win of the year.
No team has gone completely winless in the modern era of the Canadian Football League, which was officially founded in 1958.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1–17) had the worst record in CFL history in 2003, finishing with just one win in the entire 18-game season.
Before the CFL was officially founded in 1958, winless seasons did occur in Canadian football. Hamilton went winless in 1949, while the Edmonton Eskimos—now known as the Edmonton Elks—did the same in 1938, when fewer teams competed in much shorter seasons.
The Ottawa Redblacks currently hold the longest losing streak in CFL history. Dating back to the 2025 season, Ottawa have gone 20 consecutive games without a win.
The Redblacks lost their final four games of the 2025 season, and have lost 16 consecutive games in the 2026 season.
