FIFA has already determined the host nations for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups.
The centennial edition will be a historic event spanning three continents, while the 2034 tournament will see a return to a single-host format.
2030 World Cup Hosts
The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be primarily hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, continuing the multi-nation model used for the 2026 tournament.
In a special tribute to the competition's 100th anniversary, FIFA has also confirmed that the opening matches will be held in South America. Uruguay, the host of the inaugural World Cup in 1930, will stage the first game, with Argentina and Paraguay also hosting celebratory matches to mark the centenary.
All six host nations—Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay—have automatically qualified for the tournament.
2034 World Cup Host
Saudi Arabia has been confirmed as the host for the 2034 World Cup. This will be the second time the tournament is held in the Middle East, following Qatar in 2022, and it marks a return to a single-nation hosting format.
Potential Bids for the 2038 World Cup
While FIFA has not yet opened the official bidding process for the 2038 World Cup, several countries have emerged as potential candidates.
The United States, a co-host for the 2026 edition, is seen as a strong contender. Its existing infrastructure and the potential for an even larger tournament, possibly with 64 teams, bolster its case. However, FIFA's tendency to avoid awarding consecutive tournaments to the same country within a short time frame (12 years) could be a hurdle.
France has also been mentioned as a possible host, aiming to organize the event for the first time since 1998. A significant obstacle for a French bid is FIFA's continental rotation policy, which would make it difficult for Europe to host again just eight years after the 2030 World Cup.
The bidding for the 2038 tournament appears most open to nations from CONCACAF and Oceania. A joint bid from Australia and New Zealand is a possibility, although Australia currently competes in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifiers.
