Aston Martin F1: Constructors Profile

This is Aston Martin's sixth successive season in the Formula One world championship after the famous car manufacturer brand took over the Racing Point team from 2021.

The team have shown plenty of ambition under owner Lawrence Stroll, rapidly expanding since their return without yet achieving the results they would have wanted.

Aston Martin have employed a former world champion driver in each of their six seasons to date, with Sebastian Vettel leading them in 2021 and 2022, while Fernando Alonso has been their star driver for the last four years.

Lance Stroll, the son of owner Lawrence, has been an ever-present figure in their driver line-up.

The team, whose factory is close to the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England, finished seventh in their first two seasons in their distinctive British Racing Green livery.

Their best campaign to date came in 2023, when they had one of the strongest cars at the start of the season and Alonso had six podium finishes in the first eight races.

His three runner-up placings in Monaco, Canada and the Netherlands remain the team's best results to date and Aston Martin finished fifth in the Constructors Championship that season and again the following year.

The team took a backward step in 2025, though, finishing seventh in the team standings, and they have failed to score a point in the first three races of the 2026 season while battling problems with their new power unit after switching from Mercedes to Honda as their suppliers.

Current drivers

Aston Martin have fielded the same line-up for the last four seasons with Fernando Alonso pairing up with Lance Stroll.

Fernando Alonso

Still considered by many as one of the most naturally talented drivers in the sport, Fernando Alonso enjoyed his greatest successes early in his career, winning two world titles with the Renault team in 2005 and 2006, having started out driving for Minardi in 2001.

The 44-year-old, who recently became a father for the first time, went close to another title after moving to McLaren in 2007, when sparks flew between him and his rookie teammate Lewis Hamilton and both drivers eventually finished one point behind champion Kimi Raikkonen.

After returning to Renault for two years, the Spanish star moved to Ferrari in 2010 and finished as World Championship runner-up three times in the next five years.

After a tough second spell with McLaren and a stint outside F1, including two wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race with Toyota and a taste of IndyCar action with McLaren, he spent two years with the Alpine F1 team before his move to Aston Martin.

A supreme tactician, Alonso has 32 career wins in F1 and 106 podium finishes but his last F1 success was in the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll comfortably won the 2016 European Formula 3 Championship (with George Russell in third place) before moving to Formula 1 with Williams the following season.

He moved to the Racing Point team owned by his father Lawrence in 2019 and achieved a career highlight the following season when taking pole position for the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.

He also had two podium finishes that season having registered his first third-place finish as a rookie in Azerbaijan in 2017.

His best championship finish to date has been 10th in 2023, and he is often worth watching in wet conditions which can bring out the best in him.

Team Principal

Currently vacant

F1 design guru Adrian Newey began the 2026 season as Aston Martin team principal but he stepped down from the position, which is now vacant, to concentrate on his role as the team's Technical Partner.

Former Audi boss Jonathan Wheatley was expected to succeed him but is currently on gardening leave after resigning from the German outfit.

Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll has been the owner of the team since 2018, originally when it was known as Racing Point, but rebranded as Aston Martin since 2021.
