Montreal Alouettes vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers Prediction & Best Bets

Week 13 of the Canadian Football League begins on Friday night and features a matchup between the Montreal Alouettes and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

This game is scheduled for Friday, August 28 and has an expected kickoff time of 8:30 PM ET at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.

Our article previews this game by giving you our two best bets for the game, as well as a bonus player prop pick. Additionally, we include the current betting odds for the game.

Montreal Alouettes vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers betting picks and predictions

Winnipeg Blue Bombers +6.5 (-110)

Our top pick for this game targets the Blue Bombers to cover the spread.

Winnipeg enters this game with a record of 5-5 and has 10 points on the season. Given their record, the Blue Bombers are currently in fourth place in the West Division.

While the Blue Bombers' record is not overly impressive, they have still been a competitive team for most of the season. As it stands, Winnipeg has only lost three games by more than a touchdown.

They have also had two close games with the Edmonton Elks this season, one of the other top teams in the league.

As for Montreal, they enter this game with a record of 9-1 and have 18 points on the season. The Alouettes are currently in first place in the East Division and are also the top team in the overall league standings given that they have won seven games in a row.

Overall, the Alouettes have six wins by more than a touchdown. That said, they have also struggled against some of the worst teams in the league, such as Ottawa RedBlacks.

These teams have not met this season; however, given that Winnipeg has generally been able to keep their games close, backing the Blue Bombers to cover +6.5 is our best bet.

Over 59.5 total points (-110)

Our second pick for this game looks at the over.

So far this season, Winnipeg and Montreal have much different play styles. Montreal is one of if not the best offensive team, as they are averaging 36.7 points per game, while allowing an average of 26.3 points per game.

Winnipeg, on the other hand, has not been the strongest offensive team, as they are averaging 25.6 points per game, while allowing 28.6 points per game.

Despite Winnipeg's lack of offensive consistency, this is a game where they will likely need to play at a much faster pace to keep up.

On the season, Montreal is 7-3 to the over, so even though Winnipeg is 2-8 to the over, backing over 59.5 total points is our play as the Alouettes look to be too strong on offense to be slowed down by the Blue Bombers' average defense.

Tyson Philpot anytime touchdown (-160)

Our favorite player prop for this game looks for the Alouettes' Tyson Philpot to score a touchdown at any time.

Philpot has easily been one of the best offensive players for Montreal this season, as he leads the team with nine touchdowns. In addition, his nine (receiving) touchdowns leads the entire league.

Further, Philpot has scored in five of the 10 games this season, but has scored five touchdowns alone in the last two games.

Given his recent surge in scoring in the last two weeks alone, backing Philpot to find the end zone at any time is our play.
