Aaron Nola will get the call for the Philadelphia Phillies in a win-or-go-home Game 3 against the Atlanta Braves tonight - his 12th playoff start of his career.
Philly used three clutch solo homers by Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Alec Bohm from the eighth inning and beyond in Game 2, forcing a Game 3 in Atlanta. The Braves will start reliever Ray Kerr before pivoting to Grant Holmes for the bulk of the game.
Nola, who has a 4.67 ERA, gets the nod over Zack Wheeler (3.00 ERA), because the latter had to pitch on Sunday in the Phils' final game of the season to lock up a playoff spot. Wheeler may be available out of the pen if Nola struggles, but getting a big start out of their longtime starter would be huge for the team's chances to advance.
These Braves have hit Nola very well over the course of the last three years: he has a 5.12 ERA and has given up 11 bombs in 45.2 innings pitched against them since 2024. In fact, Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Ronald Acuna Jr., Mike Yastrzemski, and Drake Baldwin all have an OPS above .950 against Nola for their respective careers.
All signs are pointing to Nola struggling tonight, but in a must-win game, most previous stats can go out the window.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET at Truist Park. Take look at their pitcher props below, with odds provided by bet365:
