The PGA Tour season has reached its most important stretch, with the FedEx Cup Playoffs bringing together the top 70 players in the standings for a high-stakes run toward the season-long championship.
With the FedEx St. Jude Championship serving as the opening event, every shot carries added weight as players look to climb the standings and position themselves in the top 30 ahead of the 2026 Tour Championship.
Many changes have been made over the years since it began in 2007. Here are the official dates, locations, format, and prize money breakdown for 2026.
2026 FedEx Cup Playoffs Event Schedule
St. Jude Championship: 70 player field, Aug. 13 - 16 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN.
BMW Championship: 50 player field, Aug. 20 -23 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, MO.
Tour Championship: 30 player field, Aug. 27 - 30 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, GA.
2026 FedEx Cup Playoffs Format
The tournaments do not have a traditional 36-hole cut. All three events will feature 72-holes of stroke play as the fields gradually get smaller from 70, to 50, then the final 30 players at the Tour Championship. If a player were to withdraw or can't play there is no replacement.
The winner's of the first two events earn 750 FedEx Cup points, which can easily shake up the standings.
After the first two playoff events, the FedEx Cup points reset. Therefore, all 30 players in the Tour Championship field start at even par. The player with the lowest stroke total over the 72 holes will be crowned the 2026 Tour Champion.
Looking ahead to the 2027 season
All 70 players have already secured their PGA Tour card for next season and are exempt for full-field events and The Players Championship.
The top 50 will earn spots at the PGA Tour's 2027 Signature Events.
Those who finish in the top 30 will earn a two-year PGA Tour exemption and qualify for the 2027 Masters, U.S. Open, and The Open.
