Consisting of players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the British and Irish Lions tour a Southern Hemisphere nation every four years, usually rotating between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa - although there have also been three historic tours to Argentina.
Founded in 1888, the Lions have toured 39 times, winning 16 and losing 21 - with two ending as a draw - with New Zealand proving to be the most difficult of the group, winning just one tour against the All Blacks.
Such is their prominence within the sport, the British and Irish Lions have boasted world stars such as Jonny Wilkinson, Brian O'Driscoll and Shane Williams - among many others.
The Lions have a storied history of memorable tours and achievements, including an unbeaten tour of South Africa in 1974, famously dubbed "The Invincibles," and a historic series win against the All Blacks in New Zealand in 1971.
