Full time - Spain 1-0 Italy
It's been one of the performances of the tournament from Spain tonight. They tore Croatia apart in the first game, but have been even better this evening.
They created a number of big chances in the first half, forced some excellent saves from Donnarumma, but it needed an Italian to put the ball in the net for them in the end.
Italy created next to nothing, with Unai Simon only called into action once and while Italy's credentials are called into question, Spain laid down something of a marker in Gelsenkirchen.
90+2' - Spain 1-0 Italy
Try as they might, a player in a red shirt simply cannot find the net tonight. Ayoze Perez makes a nice run into the area, forcing a save from Donnarumma before finding space again a minute later, forcing an even better save from Donnarumma, who's been much busier tonight than he'd have liked.
85' - Spain 1-0 Italy
As good as Spain have been they've not put Italy away, who are starting to take more risks, winning the occasional set piece, which looks like their best opportunity of scoring.
Spain have made changes and no longer look as threatening, but should be able to see this out...
71' - Spain 1-0 Italy
He's been outstanding tonight, and now Williams hits the crossbar. But for his missed sitter in the first half, Williams has been flawless, and it's a wonder how he's not yet got a goal or assist. Cutting in onto his right foot, he unleashes a fearsome drive that's beaten Donnarumma all ends up, crashing off the frame of the goal.
69' - Spain 1-0 Italy
You do wonder if Spain have enough about them to reach the last four - they're on course to meet Germany in the quarter-finals if they both win their respective groups - but they've played very well against Italy night, and that's after their first-half dismantling of Croatia.
The midfield of Ruiz, Rodri and Pedri offers plenty in possession, with Yamal and Williams dazzling down the flanks, and while he has his detractors, only Michel Platini (who scored all of his goals at one tournament) and Cristiano Ronaldo have more Euros Finals goals than Morata.
60' - Spain 1-0 Italy
Yamal goes close! A sumptuous effort from the teenager, whose shot looks like it's creeping into the far corner, but kisses the outside of the post on its way past.
58' - Spain 1-0 Italy
Off the line! A long-range attempt by Morata stings the palms of Donnarumma who diverts over for a corner. The cross is met by the head of Le Normand with the effort being hooked away from the goalmouth to safety.
Italy living dangerously.
55' - GOAL - Spain 1-0 Italy (Calafiori own goal)
Well it had to be - Spain have had plenty of chances, so of course it's an Italy player who does the hard part for them.
Williams is electrifying again down the left, pulling a cross back with Morata getting a faint glance on, with Donnarumma getting a faint touch of his own straight into the path of Calafiori who can't stop himself putting into his own goal.
52' - Spain 0-0 Italy
Another Spain chance! And another Pedri chance and this might be the best chance of the three. Williams again is involved, bringing Cucurella into the move who found Pedri in space in the area, but the Barcelona man doesn't open his body enough, and his first-time shot goes wide.
46' - Spain 0-0 Italy
"Straight into them, lads"
Bryan Cristante launches into Rodri about 20 seconds after coming off the bench to pick up a ridiculously fast booking. A sore one for Rodri.
Half-time - Spain 0-0 Italy
Tournaments are typically won by the best defensive teams, not the most attacking teams, but Italy need to find a way to break down sides like Spain if they're to retain their crown.
They're not even getting a foothold in the game. They've attempted 23 passes in the final third to Spain's 114, but finally get a shot off via Federico Chiesa that's troubling no one but the fans behind the goal.
It's half-time and Italy have held out so far. We'll have updates from the second half in 15 minutes.
37' - Spain 0-0 Italy
Still Spain dominate but an obdurate Italy side are keeping them at arm's length. A nice exchange by Pedri and Williams - who's been Spain's most dangerous player by far - is eventually snuffed out by Bastoni.
Bar the couple of early chances, Italy have defended well, but you do wonder what the attacking game plan is, because we're nearing half-time and they've still not had a shot.
28' - Spain 0-0 Italy
Spain well on top now. A lovely move involving Ruiz, Carvajal and Rodri sees the City midfielder's effort blocked and you do wonder if Italy are going to punish them at some point for not taking advantage.
We are 30 minutes in now, though, and the Azzurri haven't had a single shot, nor really looked like having one.
22' - Spain 0-0 Italy
Spain have been controlling proceedings by and large but not creating anything since Williams' missed chance, but Morata gets within shooting range after some nice work on the edge of the area by Yamal.
The Barcelona youngster does really well to find Morata who's just forced slightly too wide, but brings a save from Donnarumma
Fabian Ruiz then fancies his chances from absolutely miles out, with his long-range effort well tipped over by Donnarumma.
10' - Spain 0-0 Italy
Another big Spain chance! You'd normally expect Morata to be waiting for the crosses but this time he's providing one, whipping a wonderful ball to the back post for Williams, whose glancing header goes wide.
Anywhere on target and that's a goal.
2' - Spain v Italy!
Early chance for Spain!
You can't imagine Pedri has spent all that much time heading footballs and it showed there. Nico Williams with excellent feet down the left hand side, standing a perfect cross into the area for Pedri, who almost ducks out of the free header.
It's from such close range that it still forces a save from Donnarumma, but that should be 1-0 Spain.
Spain were one of the best teams in the opening round of fixtures; arguably the best when taking into account the quality of opposition.
Unusually, it was a less possession-based effort from Spain, with Croatia actually having the most of the ball. With pacey wide men in Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, La Roja will pose a threat to any side who dares to offer them space in behind, but Italy should be more stubborn than Croatia, and tonight's match looks like a fascinating encounter on paper.
Luis de la Fuente's side are 6/5 to make it two wins from two.
bet365's Steve Freeth said: "It may have been a frustrating evening for Gareth Southgate's men, but Harry Kane's shot on target made it six out of seven successful Super Boosts, and our biggest Super Boost payout of the tournament."
