Spain v Italy Prediction, Tips and Odds: 21/10 anytime scorer Morata to fire La Roja

Spain were not exactly weighed down with expectation when they arrived at the Euros, but they caught the eye with their impressive 3-0 triumph over Croatia and will be hoping to pass another tricky test when they take on defending champions Italy at the Arena AufSchalke.

La Roja won the last of their three European Championship titles in 2012 and are targeting a bold bid for glory this summer.

Italy got their hands on the trophy three summers ago and are off to a decent start this time after coming from behind to win 2-1 against Albania.

With both sides on maximum points, this fixture could be decisive in determining which of them is likely to finish top of the section.

Spain are 11/10 for the victory, with the draw available at 9/4 and Italy ranked as 11/4 shots to pull off a surprise success.

Spain v Italy betting tips and predictions

Spain to win - 11/10

Spain suffered a heartbreaking exit in the Euro 2020 semi-finals when they succumbed to Italy in a penalty shootout, but they were 2-1 winners against the Azzurri in the 2023 Nations League final four and can succeed in their Euro 2024 Group B fixture in Gelsenkirchen.

A clash of styles seems assured with Spain expected to play a patient, possession-based game, with Italy looking to sit tight and hope to make inroads on the counter-attack.

Italy were worthy winners of Euro 2020 having impressed from start to finish, but they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and made hard work of Euro 2024 qualifying - finishing six points below England and on the same points total as Ukraine.

Luciano Spalletti’s side showed good character against Albania on Saturday by recovering from the shock of conceding a first-minute goal and going on to register a well-deserved 2-1 victory.

But they face a much sterner test against the Iberians, who were Nations League champions last year, and seem to have reacquired their taste for silverware.

Spain showed their quality and confidence with a superb 3-0 victory over Croatia and they look a solid 11/10 bet to make it six points from six.

Alvaro Morata to score any time - 21/10

It has often been said that Spain are lacking a ruthless striker, but Atletico Madrid centre-forward Alvaro Morata has amassed a very respectable 36 goals in 74 internationals and he could be their danger man against the Italians.

Morata should know plenty about the strengths and weaknesses of Italian defenders, having played for Juventus for four seasons across two separate spells.

The 31-year-old made his international debut in 2014 and is taking part in his third European Championship finals.

He was quickly off the mark this summer, bagging the all-important opening goal in Spain’s 3-0 victory over Croatia, and is approaching the Italy contest with enhanced confidence.

Morata came off the bench to score against Italy in the Euro 2020 semi-final.

He will have a more prominent role to play in Gelsenkirchen and looks a worthwhile 21/10 wager to get on the scoresheet.

Nicolo Barella to be carded - 11/5

Italy are going to have their hands full in midfield and might have to commit a few tactical fouls to stem the Spanish flow.

Jorginho is likely to be the most disciplined of the Azzurri midfielders and could spend much of his evening trying to shield the back line.

Nicolo Barella will be expected to press at the right times and he will need to be careful with his challenges.

The 27-year-old topped Inter Milan’s Serie A card count last season with seven bookings and he looks a tempting 11/5 shot for a caution on Thursday.
