He’s sat in the sports editor’s chair and been on the road, chronicling the fortunes of some of the biggest events on the planet. It’s a long way from Hall Green dog track, the wooden benches in the Rea Bank (Hollies Stand) at Edgbaston and the terraces at St Andrew’s - but everyone’s love affair with sport has to start somewhere.
