It came as somewhat of a surprise when Karl Robinson was dismissed by Salford City after enjoying a fairly successful spell at the club.
The Ammies enjoyed a decent 2025/26 campaign but fell just short as they were well beaten by Notts County in the League Two play-off final.
Robinson has a wealth of experience at this level and may see York City as an exciting project as he looks to climb the EFL ladder once again.
Matt Bloomfield
Despite suffering relegation to the third tier with Oxford United, the decision to sack Matt Bloomfield wasn't one that was met with unanimous support from the fans, with many thinking he should be given time after only taking the job in January.
The 42-year-old gained some League Two experience during his time at Colchester United and may see York City as the perfect platform to rebuild his managerial career.
Danny Cowley
At the age of 47, Danny Cowley has already gained a wealth of National League and EFL experience during his managerial career.
Cowley has been in charge of Colchester United since January 2024 and has overseen back-to-back 10th place finishes.
It will be fascinating to see whether Cowley feels he has more chance of reaching League One with a newly promoted side that will have momentum and potentially have more money to spend.
