Former England international Danny Ings has signed for League One Wycombe Wanderers.
The 34-year-old -- who has 72 Premier League goals to his name -- has been out of contract since leaving Sheffield United at the end of last season. Ings featured 23 times for the Blades, the majority of which came from the bench, scoring twice.
It's has been an active couple of days at Adams Park after the club announced the capture of former Sheffield Wednesday man Joe Wildsmith on Thursday.
Wycombe's Director of Football Strategy and Data Intelligence, Tom Stockwell, said: “We are excited to welcome Danny Ings to Wycombe Wanderers. Danny is an attacking player with top quality and a huge amount of experience at the top of the game. We believe Danny can help the team on and off the pitch.
“He joined up with the team Friday last week and has trained with the group since, so we know he’s fit and sharp, and ready to have an immediate impact.”
Ings began his career at Bournemouth before enjoying a prolific spell with Burnley. His 20 Championship goals ensured that the Clarets earned promotion to the Premier League and he proved his top-flight credentials by reaching double-figures as Burnley avoided the drop.
A combination of injury issues and inconsistent form meant that Ings' dream move to Liverpool never really took off, however, he quickly found his goalscoring touch following an £18m switch to Southampton.
In 2019/20, Ings became just the third-ever Saints player to reach 20 Premier League goals in a single season, eventually finishing runner-up, tied with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, for the Golden Boot.
Chairboys supporters might get to see their new signing in action as early as Saturday when they welcome Reading to Adams Park.
Tom Hounsell is currently tasked with leading the club on an interim basis after the decision was made to part ways with Michael Duff at the beginning of September. Although preseason expectations were lofty, Duff had overseen a winless start to the campaign after five league matches.
