Wrexham are reportedly set to name ex-Newcastle United recruitment expert Steve Nickson as the club's new Director of Football.
Nickson departed St James' Park at the end of the 2025/26 season after spending more than 15 years at the club.
After initially arriving as head of youth recruitment, Nickson became the club's head of recruitment in 2017 and played an integral role in bringing the likes of Sven Botman, Joelinton and Ayoze Perez to the North East.
Despite speculation linking him to West Ham, a report from Football Insider has claimed that Nickson is instead set to be appointed as Wrexham's new director of football ahead of their second season in the Championship.
If the move is completed Nickson would work in tandem with Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson to coordinate the club's transfer policy as they look to utilise the summer transfer window to the squad.
Wrexham have not previously employed a director of football but former FA technical director Les Reed has served as an advisor regarding recruitment since Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club in 2021.
The Red Dragons returned to the second tier for the first time in more than four decades last season following three successive promotions under Reynolds and McElhenney's stewardship.
Despite winning just two of their first ten games, Parkinson's side would recover from their misfiring start to ultimately finish seventh, narrowly missing out on a place in the play-offs on the final day.
The club have yet to announce any new signings this summer but are expected to be active in the transfer market, having welcomed 14 permanent arrivals last season for a total reported expenditure of more than £41million.
