Wigan Athletic have reportedly agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Joe Whitworth from Crystal Palace.
The Latics have revamped their goalkeeping department this summer after long-time No 1 Sam Tickle joined Bristol City in June.
Joe Walsh has started between the sticks in Wigan's first three games of the campaign but it appears that the QPR loanee will have some extra competition for his place.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the League One side have agreed to sign Whitworth in a move that will see the goalkeeper reunite with Wigan boss Gary Caldwell with whom he played for at Exeter City.
The deal is said to be a free transfer, with Palace inserting a significant sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
A boyhood Palace fan, Whitworth emerged from the club's academy and represented England at multiple youth levels.
In March 2023, with both Vincente Guaita and Sam Johnstone sidelined through injury Whitworth was given a baptism of fire as he started in the club's Premier League clash with rivals Brighton.
In doing so, he became the first academy graduate to make his professional debut at Selhurst Park in more than 40 years.
Whitworth would go on to start a second consecutive game as the club were beaten by Arsenal later that month.
Relatively short for a professional goalkeeper at 5ft 10in, Whitworth is renowned for his reactions and his distribution.
He has spent the last two seasons on loan with Exeter, making a total of 95 appearances in all competitions for the Grecians.
