Leeds United are expected to wrap-up the signing of experienced Switzerland international Nico Elvedi as Daniel Farke continues his summer renovation work at Elland Road.
The Yorkshire side have been busy in the transfer market during pre-season and the capture of the powerful Borussia Monchengladbach star for £8.5 million will further inflate their already hefty summer outlay.
The 29-year-old is expected to put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal with the club after Leeds and the German Bundesliga side agreed a deal over the weekend.
But what will the UEFA Champions League experienced central defender bring to Leeds?
Find out below...
Born in Zurich, Switzerland on 30th September, 1996, Elvedi is a 29-year-old Swiss international.
It's understood that Leeds United will splash out £8.5 million to secure the services of the talented central defender.
Elvedi is an out-and-out central defender, who has occasionally filled in at full-back.
Standing at 6ft 2ins, Elvedi boasts a decent height and carries a solid frame, making him a solid and powerful option at the back.
He is adept with both feet although he is naturally right-footed.
Naturally a right-sided central defender, Elvedi is powerful, dominant in the air and very adventurous with his passing.
Whilst he typically opts against making any real risky balls across his backline, the 29-year-old does like to instigate attacks from the back, often looking to move the ball forward as quickly as possible.
With his power and pace, Elvedi also likes to venture forward, undertaking driving runs through the middle of the pitch.
His size and stature means he is always a threat from set-pieces as proven in the fact that he has scored 20 times in his professional career as well as a further three on the international stage.
On paper, he looks a perfect fit for the Premier League and the only surprise surrounding him is that no other English top-flight side has captured his signature sooner.
Elvedi is something of a throwback having spent the majority of his career serving just one club, Borussia Monchengladbach.
He came through the Academy ranks of home city club Zurich in Switzerland, making 24 senior appearances for them before joining the German side in 2015.
He has since established himself as a mainstay in their defence, clocking up 364 appearances in all competitions and chipping in with 19 goals.
Since making his senior Switzerland bow in 2016, Elvedi has amassed 73 international caps for his country.
He clocked a career-high 13 appearances for Switzerland in 2021 and has featured in both World Cups and European Championship sides for his homeland.
The 29-year-old was part of the side that reached the quarter-finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer - starting in the 3-1 last eight loss at the hands of Argentina.
