Chelsea fell to their third defeat of the 2026/27 Premier League season against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.
It feels as though a different Chelsea side is turning up every week under the stewardship of Xabi Alonso. An emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth following the return of club football was followed by a professional 2-0 win over Everton, but they were brought back down to earth when handing Roberto De Zerbi's Spurs just their second win of the Premier League season.
Goalkeeper Mike Penders -- who displaced the injured Emi Martinez -- punched the ball into his own net from a corner in the 77th minute to give the visitors the lead, and Mathys Tel put the final nail in the coffin with a delightful solo goal.
In between both goals, Cole Palmer received a second yellow card and was therefore sent off for the first time in his professional career.
With uncertainty as to whether the one-game suspension applies to cup competitions or just the Premier League, we take a look at which game Palmer will miss for Chelsea.
Which game will Cole Palmer miss for Chelsea through suspension?
Despite receiving the red card in the Premier League against Spurs, Palmer will serve his one-game suspension when Alonso's side travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
Unlike yellow cards, red card suspensions carry over across the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup, hence Palmer's unavailability on Merseyside.
While the England international will miss the fourth round of the EFL Cup, he will be available when Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge in the top-flight at 12:30 on Saturday 31st October.
The absence of Palmer against Liverpool is likely to see Estevao -- who has played just 47 minutes Premier League minutes this term -- handed a rare start.
