When Portsmouth travel to St Mary's to take on Southampton on Sunday it will mark the 74th meeting between the South Coast rivals.
One of the fiercest rivalries in all of English football began more than 125 years ago when Portsmouth defeated the Saints 2-0 at Fratton Park.
In the early years the Hampshire sides traded wins and defeats, though it is fair to say Southampton have enjoyed a sustained run of success in the modern era.
After they were relegated from the Premier League Southampton were reacquainted with their bitter rivals, who had only recently earned their way back into the second tier following a dismal spell plagued by financial troubles in the 2010s which had threatened Pompey's very existence.
Despite Southampton eventually earning a play-off place and Portsmouth at times finding themselves in a relegation battle, they were well-matched in their two Championship encounters last season.
Following a goalless draw at St Mary's in September, Ebou Adams would rescue a point for Pompey with as they shared the points at Fratton Park in the return fixture.
While the result was an important one for the hosts, it did mean that their winless run against their rivals stretched to five games over the course of more than 15 years.
With that in mind, we've taken a look back at the last time Portsmouth defeated Southampton.
The last time Portsmouth defeated Southampton in a competitive game came all the way back in February 2010.
Wins over Coventry City and Sunderland had set Pompey up with an FA Cup fifth-round clash with their rivals at St Mary's.
At the time Portsmouth were languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, while a burgeoning Southampton side under Alan Pardew in League One were beginning their ascent up the football pyramid.
More than an hour passed without the deadlock being broken between the two clubs before Quincy Owusu-Abeyie put the visitors in the lead on 66 minutes.
Southampton quickly got back on level terms through Rickie Lambert but Portsmouth quickly re-established control, with Aruna Dindane, Nahir Belhadj and Jamie O'Hara all getting on the scoresheet as the game ended 4-1.
Avram Grant's side would go on to beat Birmingham City and Tottenham in the quarter and semis respectively to reach the 2010 FA Cup final at Wembley where they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea.
Though they had secured local bragging rights, Portsmouth's campaign would ultimately end in heartbreak as they were relegated from the Premier League following a seven-season stint in the top flight and are yet to return.
