When did England last lose a World Cup qualifying fixture?

England last suffered a defeat in World Cup qualifying when they were beaten 1-0 against Ukraine on 10th October 2009.

Goalkeeper Rob Green made a piece of unwanted history as he became the first England goalkeeper to receive a red card - dismissed after just 13 minutes for a foul on Artem Milevskiy.

Andriy Shevchenko missed the resulting penalty, but Sergiy Nazarenko netted a first half winner to inflict a first competitive defeat on manager Fabio Capello.

Since the defeat in Dnipropetrovsk, England have embarked on a 34-game unbeaten run in World Cup qualifiers - winning 26 and drawing eight of those fixtures over a 16-year period.
