West Ham have endured a dismal 2025/26 campaign and their 14-year stay in the Premier League could soon be nearing an end.
The decision to stick with Graham Potter beyond the end of the 2024/25 season was something that the Hammers would later come to regret, and they finally dismissed the manager off the back of just one win from their opening five Premier League games.
There was an expectancy that Nuno Espirito Santo, who enjoyed impressive stints at Wolves and Nottingham Forest, could oversee an upturn in form with the Hammers. Although they have earned more points than Tottenham, Burnley and Wolves since his arrival, they remain in the drop zone with just two games left to play.
They came antagonisngly close to clinching a point against Premier League leaders Arsenal in Gameweek 36, with VAR denying what would have been a 95th minute equaliser from Callum Wilson.
Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham could only muster a draw at home to Leeds United in response to West Ham's narrow defeat, offering Nuno's side a lifeline, but the Hammers fell to a 3-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon and their relegation could be confirmed on the final day.
We take a look at when and how West Ham can mathematically be relegated from the top-flight.
West Ham can be relegated on Sunday 24th May, the final day of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If West Ham lose against Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, then they will be relegated to the Championship. Similarly, if Tottenham defeat Everton, the Hammers will face the drop.
While a point for Spurs wouldn't mathematically send West Ham down, their significantly inferior goal difference means that they would need to beat Leeds by 12 goals to level their goal difference and secure survival.
