What next for Bryson DeChambeau ahead of impending LIV liquidation

LIV Golf appears to be heading towards liquidation with investors pulling out of the deal to take the breakaway tour into 2027.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which bankrolled LIV upon its inception, withdrew its funding last year, forcing the league to seek out alternative financial arragements.

'LIV 2.0' was put forward to continue the tour into 2027, albeit with significantly reduced funding and, in turn, prize pools. As such, many of the league's biggest names including Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm announced their departures, with both expected to return to the DP World Tour in 2027.

However its biggest star was seemingly one of its biggest backers going forward, with Bryson DeChambeau expected to stay on into next year, though it appears the two-time US Open winner was struggling to reach an agreement with the new investors. That, combined with legal action from the likes of Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson have led to investors pulling out altogether, and barring a last-minute buyer, LIV will fall into liquidation.

DeChambeau's future has now been thrown in the air. Unlike Hatton and Rahm, DeChambeau has no connection to the DP World Tour, but also has no immediate path back to the PGA Tour.

A year ago, DeChambeau was one of four golfers offered a path back to the PGA Tour, which only Brooks Koepka took. Patrick Reed has needed to play a year on the DP World Tour, where his performances mean he'll earn a PGA Tour card for 2027.

DeChambeau has established himself as a major name not just in golf but outside of the sport, owing to his YouTube channel.

At the moment, there is no offer on the table from the PGA Tour for DeChambeau to return, but given the LIV stars now have significantly less bargaining power, the PGA Tour may be inclined to offer ways back for a number of its former stars.

Failing that, DeChambeau would likely be offered a route to the DP World Tour; reports suggested DeChambeau was in talks with the DP World Tour over making more starts in 2027, even if he doesn't hold a full tour card, and the 33-year-old would represent a major coup for the DP World Tour.
