Mikel Arteta's Arsenal look poised for a trophy-laden campaign as they remain in the hunt for silverware on all four fronts.

The Gunners' remarkable season means the term 'Quadruple' has been uttered with increasing regularity in recent weeks as they aim to end their trophy drought, which includes a 21-year absence from the top step of the Premier League podium.

But what actually is the Quadruple? And what must a team win to achieve it?

What is a Quadruple?

In football, to achieve the quadruple a team must win four trophies in a single season.

In England, to complete the official quadruple you must win the following trophies: UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Both Manchester United in 2008/09 and Manchester City in 2018/19 have achieved four trophies in a season, but their accomplishments are not recognised as the 'true' quadruple as the season-opening Community Shield featured in their quartet of trophies.

United in 08/09 also won the FIFA Club World Cup, which is also overlooked when defining the actual quadruple as it's not considered to be a major trophy (Gianni Infantino and his accomplices are doing their utmost to ensure that's not the case moving forward with their revamped, 32-team tournament).

By the same token, a treble is when a single team wins three major trophies in a single season, but the most coveted treble in England is considered to be when an outfit wins the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.
