If injuries are piling up, suspensions strike and or there is a double gameweek for players you don't have, the Free Hit chip presents a temporary solution to your squad dilemmas.
Free Hit enables you to make drastic changes to the outlook of your team with the focus of maximising your points haul from a single gameweek.
Below, we tell you everything you need to know about the fundamental FPL chip...
The Free Hit chip allows managers to make unlimited transfers at no cost for one gameweek only.
Unlike a Wildcard, the transfers you make using the Free Hit are not permanent and your team will revert to how it originally was before the chip was activated ahead of the next gameweek.
Managers can use Free Hit twice in one season, with the first chip available to use between Gameweek 1 and Gameweek 19, while the second chip is available from Gameweek 20 onwards.
The chip cannot be cancelled once played, and you will not be able to activate any other chips (Triple Captain, Bench Boost) in the same gameweek that you have activated your Free Hit.
Utilised to make short-term gains by targeting players who can haul large points from a specific gameweek, the best time to use the Free Hit is during a double gameweek, where some teams - mainly due to fixture congestion and the impact of other competitions - play two matches in a single gameweek.
Another opportunity to maximise the Free Hit chip is when certain teams have extremely favourable fixtures, or if a number of your players are injured/suspended and you don't have enough free transfers to adjust your team accordingly.
