West Ham are reportedly in talks with Maxwel Cornet to terminate his contract early.
Cornet joined West Ham from Burnley in the summer of 2022 for a reported £17.5million but has failed to bed himself in at the London Stadium, making just 37 appearances in all competitions.
The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons on loan in Serie A with Genoa, but he returned to East London this summer after Italian club opted not to activate their buy option.
While Cornet did feature for the Hammers in pre-season it became increasingly clear that he was not part of Nuno Espirito Santo's plans for the club's return to the Championship.
Ultimately though a move away from the club did not materialise prior to deadline day, and Cornet now finds himself surplus to requirements before his contract comes to an end at the end of the season.
With that in mind, West Ham have opened talks with the player to discuss mutually terminating his contract to allow him to find a new club, according to a report from ExWHUemployee.
If an agreement can be reached it would likely be in the best interest for both player and club, with Cornet said to be one of West Ham's highest earners.
According to Capology, Cornet earns £65,000-per-week, meaning he is in line to pocket upwards of £3million in his final ten months at the club.
Cornet's last competitive appearance for the Hammers came all the way back in April 2024.
The Ivory Coast international made five appearances during West Ham's triumphant Conference League run in 2022/23, and was on the bench as David Moyes led them to victory against Fiorentina in Prague.
