Felix Horn Myhre is set to undergo a medical at West Brom as the Championship club finalise a deal for the Norwegian midfielder.
West Brom had been tracking Myhre throughout the summer but faced competition from several clubs across Europe, including La Liga outfit Elche.
The Albion stepped up their interest in the 27-year-old SK Brann talisman last week and according to the Express & Star, submitted an official bid on Friday.
Myhre made his final appearance for Brann during their 3-2 victory over Rosenborg in the Eliteserien on Sunday, with the Bergen club confirming his pending departure after the match.
With the exception of Conor Townsend and Matt Ingram, West Brom's recruitment policy has predominantly been youth-focused with the likes of Barney Stewart (22), Jimmy-Jay Morgan (20) and Nolan Galves (23) joining the club.
Baggies head coach James Morrison spoke candidly on the importance of bringing in "ready-made players" to compete at the top end of the Championship and at 27, Myhre certainly ticks that criteria.
The midfielder will also benefit from being 15 matches into the Eliteserien season and should require little time to get up to speed in the West Midlands.
Myhre is not the first Brann player to make the switch to West Brom and the Norway international will reunite with former team-mate Aune Heggebo, who traded the Brann Stadion for The Hawthorns last summer.
Following Brann's triumph over Rosenborg, Myhre said: “I’m looking forward to trying something new, and I have an old team-mate who’s kind of keeping an eye on me.”
The former Valarenga and Bodo/Glimt midfielder given a fitting send off as he was hoisted in the air in front of supporters after the full-time whistle.
Myhre made over 180 appearances for Brann in all competitions and established himself as one of the Eliteserien's leading players.
His arrival has sparked speculation concerning the long-term future of Alex Mowatt, who is set to slip down the pecking order under Morrison and has one year remaining on his existing contract.
