Watford are reportedly on the verge of signing Senegalese wing-back Krepin Diatta as a free agent.
The Hornets have made a stumbling start to the season under new head coach Alessio Dionisi and currently sit 20th in the Championship table.
After going unbeaten in their first three Championship fixtures Watford have endured a dismal run since the start of September that has seen them take just three points from a possible 15 in the league.
With the extended international break offering Dionisi something of a reprieve it appears the Italian has gone in search of reinforcements in the free agent market.
A report from Lorenzo Canicchio claims Watford are currently in talks to sign Diatta, who has been without a club since his five-year spell with Monaco came to an end in the summer.
In all, Diatta made 143 appearances for the Les Monegasques during his time at the Stade Louis II but the two parties failed to reach an agreement for a new contract when his deal expired at the end of last season.
Despite being without a club the 27-year-old was selected for Pape Thiaw's 28-man squad for the World Cup in North America.
He went on to play in every minute of Senegal's run to the knockout stages before the Lions de la Teranga were eliminated in the Round of 32 by Belgium.
Should the deal be completed the signing of Diatta will represent something of a coup for Watford, with the former Club Brugge star able to deployed both as a winger and on the right side of defence.
A number of top European clubs had been linked with him throughout the synner, including the likes of Roma, Schalke and Bologna.
