Wales announce squad for inaugural Nations Championship

Steve Tandy has named his Wales squad for their Summer Nations Championship fixtures, with six uncapped players named.

Tandy, who has already awarded seven players with their Red Dragon debuts during his short tenure so far, includes Exeter's Kane James, Dragons' Harri Keddie and Ryan Woodman, Ospreys' Ben Warren, Cardiff's Rhys Barratt and Harlequins' Bryn Bradley for the first time in his 48-man strong squad.

Leicester Tigers' back-row forward Tommy Reffell and Dragons' prop Dillon Lewis are recalled to the squad, having both been shock exclusions from the Welsh squad for the 2026 Six Nations - which saw them earn their third consecutive Wooden Spoon.

Tandy's side are also boosted by the welcome returns of Max Llewellyn, Teddy Williams and captain Jac Morgan - who missed the Six Nations after sustaining a dislocated shoulder in Wales' Autumn Nations Series clash with Argentina in 2025.

Morgan Morris, Dan Thomas, Chris Coleman, Josh Macleod, Elliot Dee and Brodie Coghlan all miss out in the forward pack, whilst Angus O’Brien, Rio Dyer and Aneurin Owen also won't feature.

Speaking on his decisions, Tandy said: "Some players will finish next weekend and then some might not come into the squad until the 27th of June, so there's a lot of staggering, that's the reason for the extended squad."

"There will be an updated squad post the Barbarians game before we go into the Nations Championship" he continued.

The Wales head coach was clear to point out the intentions for this summer, stating that "the priorities for us this summer are to keep growing the players, get them up to speed with the conditioning element and also skill development when they're coming in."

"With smaller groups, sometimes it does help that we can get to work with these boys even closer than normal. It's about getting everyone up to speed then linked to our game model as well."
