Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton go head-to-head in an enthralling all-American US Open semi-final on Friday.
The mouthwatering clash means that home fans are guaranteed a finalist in the US Open for the first time in 20 years.
Andy Roddick was the last US player to reach the final all the way back in 2006; three years after the former world number one lifted the trophy when beating Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in New York.
Therefore, either Shelton or Tiafoe will have the opportunity to end a 23-year drought for an American winner of their home Grand Slam.
Following his epic win over seven-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz, it is Shelton who assumes 1/3 favouritism heading into Friday. His last eight tie against Alcaraz lasted more than four hours, reaching its conclusion at 03:33 local time - becoming the longest match in the competition's history in the process.
It's possible that Shelton could fatigue after an effort like that, but, either way, he will take huge confidence from dumping the favourite out of the tournament.
On paper, Tiafoe's route through to the last four has been ever so slightly more forgiving, however, his performance when dismantling Daniil Medvedev in straight sets really caught the eye.
Medvedev hadn't dropped hadn't dropped a single set in his opening three rounds, defeating Hugo Gaston, Sebastian Gorzny and Arthur Rinderknech all in straight sets, but he was blown away by Tiafoe in the last 16.
The Floridian's quarter-final match didn't start in the same way, quickly finding himself two sets down against Alex Michelsen. However, he roared back to form, winning the final three sets 7-5, 6-3 & 7-6 to reach his third US Open semi-final.
Tiafoe will be hoping that it is third time lucky after losing in agonising fashion against both Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz over five sets in 2022 & 2024 respectively.
