Tyson Fury launches scathing attack on 'career-killer' Ben Davison as former trainer reunites with Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury has described former trainer Ben Davison as a 'career-killer' and 'not good enough' following confirmation that he has linked-up with Anthony Joshua for a second time ahead of December's gargantuan heavyweight showdown in Cardiff.

Davison was responsible for helping Fury shed 10 stone in 2018 after the Gypsy King called upon the revered nutritionist to help aid his bid to stage what proved to be one of the most historic returns in professional boxing history.

Fury ballooned in weight to almost 30 stone as he battled mental health issues in the aftermath of his historic world heavyweight title triumph against Wladimir Klitschko.

But after undertaking a significant lifestyle change under the guidance of Davison -- one that Fury claims saved his life -- the Morecambe man returned to the sport to undertake a blockbuster trilogy with former WBC ruler Deontay Wilder, culminating in him capturing the fabled green and gold belt.

However, after parting ways in 2020, Davison has gone on to work with a number of other blue-riband division operators, including Joshua and Queensberry sensation Moses Itauma.

When asked for his thoughts on Joshua's decision to call upon the services of the Harlow-based boxing guru for a second time ahead of their blockbuster bout in South Wales, Fury delivered a somewhat brutal response.

"Remember I left Ben Davison to go with Sugar Hill [Steward] because he wasn't good enough and this is the same Ben Davison who Anthony Joshua left [in 2024] because he wasn't good enough," he said at a roundtable interview ahead of Wednesday's press conference.

"When he got knocked out by Dubois it was the same Ben Davison who everyone said, 'oh, he's this, he's that, he's this, he's that,' and now they're going back to him.

This is also the same Ben Davison that just cost a billion-dollar athlete [Moses Itauma] his career - lets not forget that!

"So that gives me encouragement -- That gives me happiness. Joshua will probably go out there, get told to throw a jab and throw an uppercut and get himself chinned."

Joshua initially joined Davison in 2023 and trained under him at his gym in Essex wit the pair enjoying immediate and explosive success together.

AJ emphatically stopped the dangerous Otto Wallin inside five rounds at the end of that same year, before destroying MMA star Francis Ngannou inside two just three months later.

However, things dramatically fell apart in September 2024 when Joshua was obliterated by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, leading to a high-profile parting of ways.

Since that harrowing defeat, the Watford star has trained alongside former foe Oleksandr Usyk in Spain, but has now opted to return to British soil to reacquaint himself with Davison.

"I’m back with Ben full time, that’s the plan for this camp," Joshua said this week.

"When I sat back and I observed this, I realised Ben Davison will be a big addition to this fight with what he can add, not control, but what he can add to helping me beat Tyson Fury.

"They're very good at pinpointing certain things leading up to a fight that I can execute and exploit during the fight."
