"He's been the best in Europe": Tom Garratt and Rory Talks Football debate the PFA Player of the Year award

Rory Talks Football (@Rory_Talks_Ball) believes that there are FOUR Arsenal players that should be named PFA Player of the Year over Bruno Fernandes.

The Gunners are on the verge of winning their first Premier League title in more than 20 years, placing many their players in the running for the Player of the Year award.

However, with Bruno Fernandes equalling the league record for the most assists in a single season, the Manchester United midfielder appears to be the most likely victor.

Fernandes teed up Bryan Mbeumo to give United a 3-1 lead against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, in the process registering his 20th assist of the season, drawing him level with the numbers achieved by both Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne in 2002/03 and 2019/20 respectively.

Included in Rory Talks Football's quartet of Arsenal players he deems worthy of winning the award over Fernandes are Declan Rice, William Saliba, Gabriel and David Raya.

In a post on X, he explains: "There are four Arsenal players that should've won the Player of the Year award ahead of Bruno Fernandes.

"And that's the issue. They split the vote.

"I'm sure Rice, Saliba, Gabriel and Raya won't losee too much sleep over it if they win the league though."

All four have played major roles in Arsenal's sustained title challenge, however, Tom Garratt (@Tgarratt10) isn't overly convinced, saying: "That's one of the worst things I've ever read on Twitter [now X]!"

Despite his strong comments, Garratt did concede that there would be a "legitimate argument" backing Raya to win the award.

"Raya's been your [Arsenal's] best player. Your goalie has been your best player," Garratt said.

"Without Raya, you are useless!"

Mikel Arteta's men are heavy favourites to win the title this week, but given the 2025/26 PFA Player of the Year award isn't officially announced until August, we expect this debate to rumble on furiously in the meantime.

Last week, Fernandes was named FWA (Football Writers' Association) Player of the Year, an award that has been won by each of the last four eventual PFA Player of the Year winners.
