Toby Collyer has reportedly been told that he is free to leave Manchester United on a permanent transfer this summer.
The 22-year-old joined United in March 2022 after emerging through Brighton's youth system and made 13 senior appearances for the club in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign.
After spending time out on loan last season Collyer returned to Carrington this summer but has been deemed surplus to requirements by Michael Carrick.
While his team-mates travelled to Stockholm for a pre-season friendly with Atletico Madrid he instead joined up with United's under-21s, and played 60 minutes as they were beaten 1-0 by National League side Altrincham on Friday.
According to a report from The Sun, Collyer has been informed that he can leave on a permanent deal in the transfer window - with fellow academy graduate Tyler Fletcher having overtaken him in the pecking order.
Collyer has one year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford with the club hold the option for an additional 12 months, potentially opening the door for a cut-price exit with several Championship teams said to be interested.
Hull City
Possibly Collyer's best hope of remaining in the Premier League is returning to the MKM Stadium with Hull City.
He spent the second half of last season with Sergej Jakirovic's Tigers, joining the club in January after his spell at West Brom came to an end due to injury.
While Hull would ultimately go on to earn a place in the play-offs and eventually promotion back to the top-flight following a 10-year absence, Collyer struggled to make an impact amid ongoing fitness concerns.
In all, he played just 104 minutes of football during his time at the club across five Championship appearances.
However, he did display real quality in his brief time at the MKM Stadium and Hull could look to him to add depth in midfield as they attempt to stave off relegation.
Middlesbrough
After coming agonisingly close to promotion via the play-offs Middlesbrough have been forced to dust themselves down and prepare themselves for a tenth successive season in the second tier.
Kim Hellberg did an impressive job at the Riverside after succeeding Rob Edwards in November, but he will be without talisman Hayden Hackney for the coming campaign after the England youth international joined Everton.
Hackney was integral to Boro's success in the Championship last season, providing a solid defensive base in midfield whilst also chipping in with vital goals and assists going forward.
While Collyer wouldn't necessarily be a like-for-like replacement, his technical ability and defensive nous would make him a real asset in a team that once again will be looking to challenge for promotion.
Burnley
After dropping straight back into the Championship Burnley find themselves in the midst of yet another rebuild as new manager Nicky Hayen attempts to ready the Clarets for another promotion.
The club's transfer business this summer has been far from straightforward, however.
Florentino Luis was announced as a signing after his loan deal was made permanent, but it appears the Portuguese midfielder will leave mere weeks later, with Ipswich reportedly leading the race to sign him.
With a move away for Florentino seemingly imminent and after Lesley Ugochukwu departed earlier this month Burnley are in need of additional depth in midfield with the start of the season fast approaching.
Collyer can provide just that, and if he can put his injury issues behind him he could make a real impact at Turf Moor.
