Sir Nick Faldo has said Bryson DeChambeau has 'zero clue of strategy' ahead of the 2026 Open at Royal Birkdale.
DeChambeau is a two-time US Open winner, both coming since significantly adding power and speed to his game to make him one of the world's longest hitters, but his record at The Open is much more indifferent.
The 32-year-old, who plays alongside Scottie Scheffler and Tyrrell Hatton, teeing off at 09:58 BST on Thursday, has a T8 and T10 from 2022 and 2025 respectively, but his other finishes at The Open read MC, T51, MC, T33, T60, MC.
Despite some good form on LIV that's seen him win two events this year, Faldo doesn't believe it carries over into majors. Speaking to Sky Sports, Faldo said: "That's a whole part of the story, how they're superstars at LIV then come over [to majors] and can't do it.
"He has -- I'd say it to his face -- zero clue of strategy. He said it last year on TV, 'I'm going to go out and attack the links'. I've never attacked a links, you thread it, don't you? You feed it down the fairway, you look at humps and bumps and think 'if I send it over and feed it, it nudges back into play'.
"You don't think 'I'll just bomb it down there, can't see where I'm going, it's 20 yards wide.' Oh yeah, good luck. Even if you hit it fantastic, it lands on the corner of a divot, you still miss the fairway, so you've got to think 'how do I get it on the short grass?' It is so important, and he'll stand up and just keep bombing away, but you can be completely blocked out on a links."
DeChambeau is 60/1 to win The Open, Evs to finish in the top 40, 11/8 to miss the cut and 8/15 to make the cut.
