Trawlerman is aiming to defend his Ascot Gold Cup crown and will require the assistance of special eyewear due to a "weird problem" with his eyes.
Godolphin's star stayer produced a scintillating performance to capture Thursday's feature race at Royal Ascot 12 months ago but viewers might pick up on a change in his appearance this time around.
The eight-year-old will sport a pair of ski goggles in the prelims due to a condition that has made him sensitive to light.
"He's had a weird problem with his eyes," Trawlerman's co-trainer John Gosden told the Nick Luck Daily Podcast.
"He becomes very sensitive to light and, strangely enough, he's been going out and doing a lot of his exercise in ski goggles!
"He is going to be allowed to wear them in the paddock and canter down to the start.
"They won't let him race in them, understandably."
There aren't many horses that truly stay the marathon two-and-a-half-mile trip of the Ascot Gold Cup but it's a task that Trawlerman clearly relishes.
Last season he developed into Europe's top stayer, winning this race, the Henry II Stakes, the Lonsdale Cup and the Long Distance Cup during a fantastic campaign.
However, he has not been seen since that latter success, making Thursday's task somewhat less straightforward.
Young pretender Scandinavia is his main rival in the betting after he established himself as one of the most promising stayers on the planet last season.
Defeat at Royal Ascot didn't hamper his progress, winning the Goodwood Cup before landing Classic success in the St Leger at Doncaster.
