The 247th annual running of the Derby takes place at Epsom Downs on Saturday 6th June.
Master trainer Aidan O'Brien is eyeing a record-extending 12th success in the race and saddles the hot favourite Benvenuto Cellini (2/1), who is the mount of stable jockey Ryan Moore.
Fresh of the back of Classic success in France, the formidable duo have earmarked Epsom as Benvenuto Cellini's next step following his brilliant win in the Chester Vase last month. 2025 winner Lambourn, also handled by O'Brien, charted the exacted same path to victory 12 months ago.
In total, O'Brien will be relying on a quartet of runners when runners head to post at 16:00 BST on Saturday afternoon.
Pierre Bonnard (6/1) was talked about as a Derby horse all throughout his two-year-old season but hasn't quite made the impact that some would have hoped at three. His trainer has always maintained that he is bringing him along gently with this day in mind and there appears to be an awful lot of confidence surrounding his effort this weekend.
Stablemates Action (18/1) and Christmas Day (20/1) make up the Ballydoyle four, although connections might be slightly less hopeful on the chances of the former after he drew stall two, which is without a winner ever since starting stalls were introduced in 1967.
Posing the biggest threat to Ballydoyle success is Dante winner Item (4/1).
The Juddmonte-owned colt is bred impeccably -- by Frankel and out of a Grade 1-winning mare -- and could yet still improve off the back of his trial win, given he has just three racecourse starts to his name.
Whilst you're getting fancy prices about the rest, the credentials of Maltese Cross (10/1) and James J Broaddock (10/1) should not be lost on bettors.
Kevin Blake, the owner of James J Braddock, has reason to believe that his colt may produce a career best around Epsom. He defeated Pierre Bonnard in the Leopardstown Derby Trial in early May and he is certainly bred for the extra two furlongs that he will encounter at Epsom.
Maltese Cross (10/1) won the Lingfield Derby Trial last time out and is a sure thing to see out the trip given his stout pedigree. William Haggas' sole Derby winner came all the way back in 1996 and what a story it would be if he could add a second 30 years later.
