Iga Swiatek continues her quest to become the first back-to-back Wimbledon women's singles winner since Serena Williams in 2016 and 2017 when she takes on Alexandra Eala in the third round of the 2026 event on Saturday.
Swiatek has not made it past the quarter-finals in three Grand Slam events since her London triumph last summer, but she has made at least the fourth round each time, and she will be hopeful of extending that trend against her 29th-seeded opponent.
Swiatek has seen off Taylor Townsend and Karolina Pliskova in the first two rounds, while Eala, who has never previously been past the second round in any Grand Slam event, has beaten Renata Zarazua and Maya Joint in her first two matches.
Best Bet – Iga Swiatek to win 2-0 @ 5/6
Alternative Bet – Iga Swiatek to win first set 6-3 or 6-4 @ 15/8
Bet Builder – Under 21.5 total games, Iga Swiatek -4.5 games (handicap), Alexandra Eala 3+ double faults, Iga Swiatek 3+ aces @ 16/5
Best Bet: Iga Swiatek to win 2-0 @ 5/6
Considering the respective standings of these two players in the game, their head-to-head record is surprisingly even at 1-1, but as the defending Wimbledon champion, Iga Swiatek has plenty going for her in her third meeting against her improving opponent.
Swiatek had a wobble in her opening match against American Townsend, losing the second set 6-2 after taking the opener 6-1, but she recovered to take the decider 6-3.
The Polish star made no mistake in her second-round clash against Pliskova, cutting out the unforced errors of her first match to sweep to a 6-1 6-1 victory, and she should be in good heart for this match-up.
Swiatek will also be well aware of the threat the underdog poses, having lost 6-2 7-5 against her in the Miami Open quarter-finals last season. She also lost a set when they met on clay in Madrid in that campaign, but came through to win 4-6 6-4 6-2.
Eala began the tournament with a comfortable straight-sets win over an unseeded opponent but caught the eye of many neutral observers when she knocked out Serena Williams's first-round conqueror Maya Joint in her second match.
Joint had looked strong when upsetting the veteran Williams on her comeback appearance and she won the first set before Eala dropped only two further games in winning the match.
Forewarned about her opponents' unusual skillset, which includes regular changes of pace, Swiatek should be capable of avoiding an upset.
She was in scintillating form when taking the title last season, beating Amanda Anisomova 6-0 6-0 in a final that lasted just 57 minutes, and can secure a 2-0 victory over Eala.
Alternative Bet: Swiatek to win first set 6-3 or 6-4 @ 15/8
Neither of these players has been messing around so far in this tournament, with none of the 10 sets they have contested between them so far taking more than nine games to complete.
A long-drawn-out opening set that goes to a tiebreak therefore seems unlikely, and Swiatek to take the first set 6-3 or 6-4 looks a decent value option.
Two of the four sets she has won so far were by a 6-3 score and Eala represents a tougher opponent than her first two rivals, who were both beaten 6-1 in the other sets.
Under 21.5 total games
Iga Swiatek -4.5 games (handicap)
Alexandra Eala 3+ double faults
Iga Swiatek 3+ aces
Pays @ 16/5
A relatively swift Swiatek success looks on the cards, so taking her to cover a 4.5 games deficit on the handicap with under 21.5 total games in the match appeals.
Her first two matches lasted 24 and 16 games, but she has looked strong other than the sloppy second set she played against Townsend.
The match is likely to feature more double faults than aces; their Miami clash produced seven double faults and only four aces.
Eala can be expected to make at least three serving errors under the Wimbledon spotlight against the defending champion, while Swiatek should be able to send down three or more aces, as she did in that Miami contest when Eala managed only one.
