Alexandra Eala v Elena Rybakina Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

Alexandra Eala and Elena Rybakina meet in the second round of the Berlin Open in what promises to be one of the standout matches of the week.

Eala has been playing the best grass‑court tennis of her career, having won her second WTA Tour title at the Birmingham Open earlier this month.

And she saw off Queen's Club champion Donna Vekic in short order on Wednesday to set up this intriguing rematch of their only previous clash in Rome.

Rybakina prevailed 6‑4 6‑3 on clay in that Italian Open third-round match five weeks ago, but her results have taken a turn for the worse since.

The world No.2 lost in the second round of the French Open and suffered another early exit in her first grass-court event of the year, going down 7-5 2-6 6-4 to Katie Boulter in London.

She arrives in Berlin in need of matches on a surface which she usually handles very well, having won the Wimbledon women's singles title in 2022.

Alexandra Eala v Elena Rybakina Prediction

Best Bet: Elena Rybakina to win & over 19.5 games @ 5/4

Rybakina enters this match with a clear edge in power, experience and grass‑court pedigree. Her serve is one of the most dominant weapons in the women's game and, on a slick Berlin surface, it becomes even more potent.

Eala's recent form has been outstanding, but this is a significant step up in opposition. Her win over Vekic underlined her resilience and improved serving, but she still faced 14 break points.

Vekic, who was probably a little tired after her long run and victory in London, could only convert two of those opportunities, but a top player like Rybakina is far more likely to punish Eala.

Their recent Rome meeting also carries some relevance. Although clay is Eala's weaker surface, Rybakina controlled the match with depth and pace, forcing short replies and dictating from the baseline.

On grass, those patterns may become even more pronounced.

Eala certainly likes to work with some pace on the ball and Rybakina's power will aid her counterpunching to give her a chance to extend the rallies.

She could take a set if the Kazakh takes her time to find her feet in only her third outing on grass for almost a year.

But Rybakina's ability to take the ball early and flatten out her groundstrokes should allow her to control the tempo and eventually claim the win.

Expect a longer match than they produced in Rome with the potential for a deciding set, but Rybakina to win with at least 20 games looks a good play.

Alternative Bet: First set: Eala to break serve - Yes @ 5/6

Neither player relies on long, grinding holds. Instead, they produce short, explosive points that can lead to quick breaks of serve.

Eala's return is good enough to make some inroads on the Rybakina serve if she is having a slight off day.

That has been the case in the early going of her last three matches, when Rybakina has been broken at least once in the opening set.

Alexandra Eala v Elena Rybakina Bet Builder

  • Set 1 Handicap: Eala +2.5 games

  • Rybakina over 3.5 breaks of serve

  • Eala 3+ double faults

    Pays 6/1

Eala was able to keep the first set pretty close on their only previous WTA Tour meeting in Rome, when Rybakina took the opener 6-4.

The 21-year-old is playing well on grass, serving brilliantly in her last match against Vekic, and can hold four times to ensure the +2.5 Set 1 Handicap lands.

However, the Kazakh star's power may prove to be too much on Thursday. She broke Eala four times in that clay contest earlier this year and that could happen again over a potentially longer match.

Eala's matches this month have averaged high break‑point volume and Rybakina's return should create pressure.

The Filipina served five doubles in that Rome clash and another five in her recent Birmingham final against Nikola Bartunkova, so back her to deliver three or more in Berlin.
