However, while momentum appears to be on their side heading into the game, Murat Yakin's side have a dismal record in the knockout stages at previous tournaments.
The last time Switzerland won a knockout game at the World Cup was more than 70 years ago, when they beat Italy on home soil in a play-off before exiting the tournament at the quarter-final stage with a 7-5 loss to Austria.
Algeria meanwhile have never won a World Cup knockout game, with a 2014 defeat to eventual winners Germany in extra-time representing their only previous experience beyond the group stages.
