Swansea and Watford target move for QPR defender

Swansea City and Watford are reportedly targeting a deal for Queens Park Rangers defender Jake Clarke-Salter before the transfer window shuts.

West London Sport have reported the interest in the centre-back from the two Championship sides.

The 28-year-old arrived at QPR from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 following a number of spells out on loan.

His time at Loftus Road has been plagued by injuries and he has only made 25 Championship across the last two seasons.

However, when fit and available, he is a more than capable operator who has excelled in the second-tier.

Championship

Clarke-Salter has started QPR's first two Championship matches but he could eventually fall behind Jimmy Dunne and Ronnie Edwards in the pecking order.

Swansea are in the market for a new defender following injuries to Ben Cabango and Cameron Burgess.

The Swans have taken four points from their first two league games and they see Clarke-Salter as an important signing to plug the gap in a depleted backline.

Watford are also linked with a move for the centre-back who is now entering the prime years of his career.

QPR are expected to face bids for a player who provides good depth but Clarke-Salter may see a potential move as the best route to regular first-team football this season.
