Stephen Bunting backs Royal Rumble Darts event

Stephen Bunting has given his backing to a potential Royal Rumble event being added to the Darting calendar.

The premise of such an event has been mooted for a number of years given the rise of Darts on a global scale.

The 'Royal Rumble' is synonymous with the WWE and involves 30 wrestlers competing to stay in the ring after entering the contest at different times.

It is a concept that has been tipped to a be a success within Darts and is likely to appeal to fans due to the unexpected nature of the participants.

A Royal Rumble-style Darts event would start with two players facing each other, potentially over just one 501 leg, with the winner staying on to face the next challenger.

The event would continue until the final two players have met and the surprise element would be not knowing which players were making their way to the oche, with the walk-on music revealing who was next in line.

Bunting, one of the most popular players on the PDC circuit, believes the introduction of the event would be great for the sport.

"A Royal Rumble event would be great, one on one, a new player coming in and then the last one standing wins the trophy," said Bunting.

"It would be great to be part of and even better to be the last person to come in, especially if you took the title off someone who has been there all day!

"There’s a lot of things being mooted at the moment but a Royal Rumble style tournament would be a lot of fun.

"I’ve watched wrestling in the past too and it would be really exciting. I’m sure it would be a fantastic tournament.

"Obviously its always exciting when a new tournament comes in and I think its always great for the sport.

"It could be even be a pairs tournament that doesn’t involve countries.

"Hopefully the PDC have got a few things in the pipeline and we may see a few new tournaments coming soon."

Bunting's popularity amongst Darts fans and an event that would undoubtedly be a fantastic experience for attendees would be an exciting combination.

His walk-on to Titanium by Australian singer Sia is one of the most famous in the sport and always receives a loud response.

Bunting is proud of his relationship with his fans and he relishes the atmosphere created around big events.

"I always try and win for the fans, my sponsors, management and myself.

"It's important for me that the fans stay on my side, it suits my personality and my game.

"That’s why I try and do the YouTube stuff and give something back to the fans so they can see a different side of my personality.

"I enjoy the interaction with the fans, they’ve been fantastic all throughout my career and especially now with being in the Premier League and other big events.

"A big part of the fanbase is down to the Titanium walkout because they like the song so long may it continue."
