Stephen Bunting on Liverpool: Arne Slot's football is not enjoyable

Stephen Bunting believes Arne Slot is not the right man to lead Liverpool into next season following an underwhelming 2025/26 campaign.

Slot was able to lead the club to the Premier League in his first season at the club but despite a summer spending free, the champions have been disappointing this time around.

The club are well placed to secure UEFA Champions League for next season but their title defence never got going and they will end the campaign without silverware.

Popular Darts player and Liverpool supporter Bunting has not been impressed with the style of football adopted by Slot this season.

Reports have suggested that Slot will be in charge for the start of next season but when asked if that would be the right decision, the lifelong Reds supporter gave an emphatic response.

"Personally, no I don't think he should stay," said Bunting.

Premier League

"He has won the Premier League title but this season it's been very different, I suppose it would be a case of looking to see who they could get in.

"It’s hard to say who the club could get, obviously Xabi Alonso’s name has been mentioned and then there's the likes of (Andoni) Iraola and Luis Enrique.

"There are some great managers out there but would they want to come to Liverpool at the moment with the way we’ve been this season? Possibly not.

"I just don’t believe Arne Slot’s football is enjoyable to watch and we've obviously spent a lot of money."

Key players should be sold

Bunting believes that the club needs to move certain players on this summer as they look to challenge to regain their title next season.

In a game of 'Keep or Sell', the former Masters champion selected fringe players Waturu Endo, Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili as three players he would sell.

The likes of Milos Kerkez, Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones have featured far more prominently for the club, but Bunting would also move those players on if he was in charge.

There was also some hesitation on Virgil van Dijk before he opted to keep the Liverpool captain.

Salah replacement necessary but difficult

Mohamed Salah is one player who will definitely leave the club this summer and it will be a challenge to replace a club legend.

The Egyptian winger almost left the club under a cloud earlier in the season but Bunting believes he is now leaving in the right way.

Whilst he would like his team to sign a ready-made replacement, he believes that the club may have to be more prudent when it comes to the summer transfer window.

"He’s definitely up there amongst the Liverpool greats for what he’s done for the club, he’s been fantastic.

"I think he’s gone about it the right way in the end. He’s coming to the end of his career now but he’s been one of the greatest to ever wear a red shirt and he will be missed.

"Obviously we need to find a replacement there. I think bringing in (Michael) Olise would be amazing but I don’t think that will happen.

"We spent really big last year so the pot is probably a bit dry at the moment. Hopefully we can find a few bargains, possibly off some of the teams going down."
