When Albert Ferrer joined Chelsea in the summer of 1998 he made history as the first Spaniard ever to play for the Blues.
Ferrer arrived at Stamford Bridge following an eight-year spell in Barcelona's first team in which he had won five La Liga titles and the European Cup in 1992.
The full-back would go on to play more than 110 games for Chelsea in all competitions before departing when his contract expired in May 2003.
Since then a number of Spanish players have put on the famous blue shirt, including the likes of Fernando Torres and Juan Mata - who were integral to the club's UEFA Champions League-winning campaign in 2011.
However, no Spanish player has made more appearances for Chelsea than legendary former captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
In an 11-year spell in west London Azpilicueta wrote his name in club folklore, leading the club to victory in the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup.
In all, the two-time Premier League winner made a remarkable 508 appearances for Chelsea, putting him sixth in the club's all-time appearance list.
