Spain will not have any Real Madrid players represent them at the World Cup for the first time in the competition's history after Luis de la Fuente named his 26-man squad for this summer's tournament.
Dean Huijsen was Real's lead candidate to feature in Spain's final squad after being named in De la Fuente's provisional 55-man list, but the central defender has been overlooked despite a debut season at the Bernabeu where he made 40 appearances in all competitions.
It's not the first major tournament in which no Real Madrid players have been selected for Spain. Luis Enrique's party for Euro 2020 featured no players from the world's most decorated club, but there were three Real Madrid players in the side that won Euro 2024: Dani Carvajal, Nacho and Joselu.
Carvajal, who is set to leave Real Madrid this summer, has also been overlooked for the World Cup.
Spain's centre-back options are Pau Cubarsi, Aymeric Laporte, Eric Garcia and Marc Pubill in light of Huijsen's omission.
The Premier League has seven representatives in Spain's squad, of which three are Arsenal players.
David Raya, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino will all enter this summer's tournament as Premier League champions, while La Roja's full-back options consist of Chelsea's Marc Cucurella and Tottenham's Pedro Porro. Manchester City's Rodri and Crystal Palace's Yeremy Pino also feature.
Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal, who both scored in the Euro 2024 final win over England, both feature in the final squad.
Barcelona's famed La Masia dominates the 26-strong party with Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Gavi and Pau Cubarsi all present and set to play prominent roles for De la Fuente in North America.
