Southampton set for fire-sale with West Brom, Sheffield United & Derby County on high alert

Southampton are reportedly willing to sanction the departures of as many as six first-team players before the closure of the transfer window, according to reports.

It's understood boss Tonda Eckert has given the club's management the green light to seek buyers for the likes of Gavin Bazunu, Ben Brereton-Diaz and Cameron Archer as the German puts the finishing touches to his squad at St Mary's.

The Saints have secured permanent deals for former loan stars Cyle Larin and Daniel Peretz this summer, whilst Lewis Dobbin, George Long and, most recently, Divin Mubama have also checked-in on the south coast.

With further incomings expected before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st, Eckert is hoping to raise funds through a handful of sales.

Championship

Goalkeeper Bazunu, who arrived for big money from Manchester City three years ago, spent the second half of last season on loan at Stoke City after falling out of favour at St Mary's.

It's understood the Republic of Ireland international has interest from other Championship clubs, whilst Dinamo Zagreb have also been mooted as a potential destination for the stopper.

Former Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale will also be sanctioned an exit as he attempts to get his career back on track, whilst the club are also believed to be willing to part ways with Japanese international Yuki Sugawara.

A trio of attackers are also up for grabs, according to Football League World, with Derby County and Sheffield United keen on a reunion with former Blackburn Rovers hitman Brereton-Diaz and West Bromwich Albion still in talks over the potential signing of Archer.

United States international Damion Downs also appears to be on his way out of the club after failing to make any sort of impact since his arrival from FC Koln last summer.

The 22-year-old has failed to score a solitary league goal since signing for the Saints, whilst he didn't fare much better during a loan spell with Hamburg during the second half of the 2025/26 campaign.

But with age on his side, Southampton are keen to recoup as much of their £7 million outlay as possible, with MLS clubs believed to have expressed recent interest in his services.
