Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly among the clubs interested in a loan move for Aston Villa defender Sil Swinkels.
With Sheffield Wednesday now a League One side, following their dismal relegation from the Championship last season, it is expected that a complete squad overhaul is required.
As a result of their widely reported financial problems, this will likely be supplemented by a number of loans and free transfers, to allow them to spend fees on some quality players.
It is therefore no surprise that they are one of the clubs linked with a move for Aston Villa's 22 year-old centre back Sil Swinkels.
According to Alex Miller via the Star, the Owls are interested in a move for Villa's young ball playing defender, to help bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
The Netherlands youth international spent the first half of last season on loan at League One strugglers Exeter City, making 11 appearances, before being recalled and sent immediately to League Two promotion chasers Chesterfield.
At a better quality of side - relative to their division - Swinkels excelled, helping Chesterfield to the League Two play-offs, before ultimately falling short to Notts County in the semi finals.
A left footed centre back, who was a key member of Aston Villa's FA Youth Cup winning squad in 2021, the Dutchman is held in extremely high regard within the club and is seen as a potential first team player in the future at Villa Park.
The 6'3"defender has made two appearances for the Villans since moving from Vitesse Arnham in 2021, making his debut in the FA Cup against Liverpool in 2021 and featuring in a 2-1 win over Wycombe in the EFL Cup three years later.
With a season and a half of EFL action under his belt, Swinkels could be an important asset for the Owls in their hunt to return to the second tier at the first time of asking.
