Despite the wealth of Senegalese talent to have plied their trade in England over the years, African country had something of an inauspicious start when it comes to Premier League representation.
In fact, the first player from Senegal to feature in the English top flight is arguably the most infamous player in the league's history.
Born in country's capital of Senegal, Aly Dia made his sole Premier League appearance in November 1996, after then-Saints boss Graeme Souness had received a hoax phone call claiming Dia had played for his country and was the cousin of George Weah.
While Dia's career will forever go down as one of the most notorious moments in Premier League history, the Senegalese players that followed Dia would go on to leave a much better impression on English football.
Of those, since the 2005/06 campaign none has made more league appearances than Cheikhou Kouyate.
Kouyate joined West Ham in the summer of 2014 and went on the spent four years at the club before enjoying spells with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
In all, Kouyate made a total of 291 Premier League games, putting him top of the list - ahead of the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Diame and El-Hadji Diouf.
