Scott McTominay was already a hero on the terraces of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona but the Scotsman etched his name into legendary status after helping Napoli to the Serie A title.
Napoli and Inter Milan were locked in a gripping title showdown on the final weekend of the Serie A season as Antonio Conte's men needed to match the result of Simone Inzaghi's outfit to claim the Scudetto.
As news emerged of Inter breaking the deadlock away at Como, the air of nervousness which suffocated Naples soon dissipated as McTominay acrobatically connected with Matteo Politano's cross to provide Napoli with the lead they so desperately craved.
It was an advantage Gli Azzurri dare not relinquish and Romelu Lukaku's goal shortly after the interval ensured the celebrations could truly commence.
As soon after the final whistle went, McTominay was named Serie A's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for 2024/25 and it was fitting that the Scotsman sent Napoli on their way to glory.
Reflecting on the achievement after the match, McTominay told DAZN: "The sacrifice of every single player in this group is just incredible.
The people deserve it, as they've been behind us from day one. For me to come here and experience this, it's just a dream.
The 28-year-old has been a revelation in Italy since joining Napoli from Manchester United in a £25 million deal last summer, racking up 17 goal contributions to earn the affection of the Neapolitans.
Eight of his 12 goals were scored in matches that were 0-0, which only heightened the adulation for the man that Napoli supporters have nicknamed McFratm, McTerminator, MacGyver and apribottiglie (the bottle opener), amongst many others.
McTominay fell to his knees when the full-time whistle blew and as the tears began to stream down his face, the Scottish midfielder was mobbed by his team-mates.
"My Italian is OK, I can understand, but speaking it takes more confidence and it's not easy," he added.
"It is much easier to do it with people who don't speak any English. I can feel a lot of love."
