Salford City are looking to strengthen further this window by opening talks to sign Fleetwood captain Elliot Bonds, according to reports.
The Ammies narrowly missed out on achieving promotion to the third tier of English football for the very first time last season and, in in an attempt to go one better this time around, have already announced six summer signings, as well as the appointment of a new manager.
Six could soon be seven too, with journalist Peter O'Rourke reporting that the club are trying to tempt Bonds with a move away from Highbury.
In a post on X, O'Rourke said: "Salford are in talks to sign Fleetwood captain Elliot Bonds over a permanent move for the Guyana international."
The 26-year-old took over the armband for the Cod Army off the back of an impressive debut campaign in Lancashire where he established himself as a key player, featuring 41 times across all competitions for then manager Pete Wild.
His consistent performances earned him a call-up for the Guyana national team, so far earning 24 caps, making starts in CONCACAF Gold Cup and World Cup qualification campaigns.
Although Fleetwood will be reluctant to part ways with their skipper, Bonds does only have one year remaining on his current deal, meaning that this summer might be the last chance that the Fisherman have to garner a fee for the former Hull City man.
The project at Salford may interest Bonds, too. The eye-catching signing of Macauley Langstaff is a clear signal of intent heading into 2026/27 and the appointment of Ange Postecoglou's former assistant Peter Cklamovski is a fascinating one.
