Ryan Garcia has publicly set the weight conditions for a potential rematch with old foe Gervonta Davis.
After a difficult two-year spell in boxing, Garcia returned with a vengeance to defeat Mario Barrios earlier this year and arguably recorded his most emphatic display yet when overcoming Conor Benn to retain his WBC welterweight title at the weekend.
While there was an overarching sense that -- with the significant amount of weight that Benn had to cut to make 147-pounds -- 'King Ry' would come out on top, the speed at which Garcia demolished the Brit did surprise some.
Benn lasted the course in his previous five bouts -- including successive wars against long-term rival Chris Eubank Jr -- but Garcia got him out of there in just two rounds, with referee Thomas Taylor stopping the contest after a relentless barrage of fierce shots from the 28-year-old.
Following his victory at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Garcia has expressed a willingness to lock horns with previous adversary Gervonta Davis.
Garcia took to social media platform X to address a potential rematch with Garcia.
He said: "Gervonta [is] cool but he don’t want the smoke. What’s up with you [?].
"I went to 136 [and] you can’t come to 147, don’t be shaky now. I need that if you want it. If not there’s nothing to be said."
Davis handed Garcia the first defeat of his professional career at the T-Mobile Arena in April 2023, ending a rivalry that evolved over several years, with initial discussions about the fight starting in mid-2020.
Garcia started the bout aggressively against "Tank", but he was seemingly stripped of some confidence after being dropped in just the second round of the fight.
Davis landed a powerful left hand to the body in the seventh round, causing Garcia to take the knee. Evidently impeded by his opponent's mighty blow, Garcia was unable to recover and was counted out at 1:44 of the round.
There were several arguments that -- as a result of the catchweight and rehydration cap -- Garcia looked gaunt on fight night, and the WBC champion appears keen to rematch Davis in his preferred welterweight division.
Davis hasn't yet indicated a willingness to make the jump up to 147, having weighed in at 133.8 pounds for his last fight with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025.
