Rory McIlroy is bidding to join an illustrious list of players with three or more victories at the PGA Championship.
The 37-year-old won the tournament in 2012 and 2014 at Kiawah Island and Valhalla respectively and looks well-placed ahead of his 2026 hat-trick bid.
Walter Hagen, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead and Brooks Koepka make up a star-studded list of players to complete the treble, but creating history is not something that McIlroy has been adverse to throughout his career.
In 2025, McIlroy won the Masters at the 18th attempt, in the process completing the four-strong Major set and becoming just the sixth man to win the career Grand Slam.
Following that historic win, some doubted how motivated McIlroy would be going forward, but he emphatically banished that notion by landing a second Green Jacket in 2026.
McIlroy hasn't been in action a whole lot this year, instead choosing to focus on Major championships, but backers of his would have been delighted to see him tee it up at the Truist Championship last week.
Whilst his T19 finish may not have grabbed any headlines, he showed flashes of brilliance that were borne out in some eye-catching underlying metrics. 67s on both Friday and Sunday were enough to secure him T2 and T9 respectively in terms of rounds of the day and his driver was in flying form; ending the week 1st for Strokes Gained Off the Tee.
That outing will have blown away any cobwebs potentially in McIlroy's system and, if rumours are to be believed, he has spent a lot of time playing this year's PGA Championship host course - Aronimink Golf Club.
