Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has made Snooker history by chalking up a 153 break at the World Open.
'The Rocket' left quarter-final opponent Ryan Day in a snooker at the beginning of the opening frame and, after the Welshman's failed in his attempt to get out, handed O'Sullivan a free ball.
This allowed the 50-year-old to start his break with a green, followed by a black, to put him on eight points before he turning his hand to the reds.
Following his unprecedented start to the frame, O'Sullivan reeled off 15 consecutive reds, alongside 13 further blacks and two pinks before ticking off the colours to amass an eye-watering break of 153.
Helped by his fast start, he registered a dominant 5-0 over Day to safely see him through to the World Open semi-finals in China.
The world number 12 previously came through matches against Ross Muir, Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to reach the last eight.
His earnings for the tournament so far are in excess of £50,000 and, although not technically confirmed, it would be safe to assume that the £5,000 bonus for making the highest break will be heading in the direction of O'Sullivan.
He will now face off against Wu Yize in the semi-finals, where a win will pocket him an additional £22,000.
O'Sullivan, by his standards, is on somewhat of a ranking title drought having not landed world tour event since defeating Judd Trump 10-7 in the 2024 World Grand Prix final.
The former world number one is 15/8 to go on and land the World Open title.
Jamie Burnett was the previous holder of the record for the highest break after bagging a 148 in UK Championship qualification all the way back in 2004.
