The World Open has undergone numerous revamps and taken on many different forms since 1982, initially being named as the Professional Players Tournament.
Ray Reardon was the winner of the inaugural World Open in 1982, defeating Jimmy White 10-5 in the final.
Steve Davis became the first snooker player to win back-to-back World Open titles, an achievement that has only been repeated four times since.
Following a break in the competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Open returned to China in 2024, where Judd Trump would beat Ding Junhui 10-4 in the final, claiming consecutive World Open honours.
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh is the defending champion after beating Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-7 in the 2026 final.
